2011 SESSION
WHEREAS, William Clark, a dedicated volunteer firefighter from the small community of Atlantic in Accomack County, died in the line of duty on September 24, 2010, from the effects of battling a brush fire; and
WHEREAS, a native of Salisbury, Maryland, William “Hal” Clark was born on March 13, 1956, the son of the late Bill and Virginia (Shields) Clark; and
WHEREAS, a hard-working and responsible citizen, Hal Clark made Accomack County his home and worked for the Town of Chincoteague in the Public Works Department, where he was a dedicated and valued employee; and
WHEREAS, Hal Clark desired to be of service to his neighbors and was a lifetime member and president of the Atlantic Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, which protects 1,500 people living in a primarily rural area; and
WHEREAS, a natural leader, Hal Clark was dedicated to the protection of the lives and property of his fellow residents and was admired by his colleagues for his experience and expertise in fighting fires; and
WHEREAS, Hal Clark generously gave of his time and talents in the community as a volunteer for the Chincoteague Carnival, member of the Sons of the American Legion Post # 159 and the American Legion Riders, and past member of the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, Hal Clark’s untimely death serves as a reminder of the courageous devotion to duty and perils faced by firefighters throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by his son, Todd, Hal Clark will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his daughter, Valerie; granddaughter, Jenna; fiancée, Mary, and her son, Michael; numerous other friends and admirers; and the community of Atlantic; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a brave firefighter and outstanding Virginian, William Clark; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Clark as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
