11100864DWHEREAS, Charles E. Tull, the beloved and dedicated mayor of the Town of Saxis on the Eastern Shore, died on September 21, 2010; and
WHEREAS, a native of Saxis, Charles Tull was born on July 19, 1947, to loving parents Beatrice Furniss Tull and the late Harry Tull and was one of three siblings; and
WHEREAS, Charles Tull established a wonderful life for himself in his beloved Saxis; he married the love of his life, Teresa, and they had two children; he worked diligently as an insurance claims adjuster; and
WHEREAS, Charles Tull’s great passion was his hometown; he became mayor in 1996 and devoted himself to promoting the bayside town in Accomack County; and
WHEREAS, a vocal advocate, Mayor Tull successfully lobbied the state for construction of the Saxis fishing pier, which was completed in 2002; and
WHEREAS, the 200-foot pier is lighted, accessible to all, and open 24 hours a day; the pier is the site of an annual children’s fishing tournament, which contributes to the economic well-being of the small community; and
WHEREAS, admired for his enthusiastic and innovative spirit, Mayor Tull worked tirelessly over the years on behalf of the town’s 350 residents; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his mayoral duties, Charles Tull generously gave of his time and talents in the community as a member of the Temperanceville Lodge #121 and Saxis Volunteer Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Charles Tull will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife, Teresa; children, Jennifer and Barbea, and their families; his mother, Beatrice; and numerous other family members, friends, and the citizens of Saxis; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of the beloved and dedicated Mayor of Saxis, Charles E. Tull; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles E. Tull as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
