SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:
Government Data Collection and Dissemination Practices Act; collection of social security numbers. Sets out the original date (January 1, 1975) when social security numbers were authorized to be collected/required by state and local agencies under federal law, which is a recommendation of the Freedom of Information Advisory Council. The bill also provides that nothing shall be construed to prohibit the collection of a social security number for the sole purpose of debt collection by state and local agencies.
