HB 244 Possession of contraband by a prisoner; guilty of Class 1 misdemeanor.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Possession of contraband by a prisoner; penalty.  Provides that any prisoner who willfully in any manner brings into the facility in which he is confined, or attempts to bring into the facility, any article of any nature whatsoever, without first securing the permission of the person in whose charge such prisoner is, and who may in his discretion grant or refuse permission is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. Currently, the delivery of such an article by another to a prisoner is prohibited. The bill also raises the penalty for possession or use of certain contraband items by a prisoner in a correctional facility from a Class 6 to a Class 3 felony.
