Celebrating the life of Ralph William Carroll, Sr.

WHEREAS, Trooper Ralph William Carroll, Sr., of Stanleytown, a respected member of the Virginia State Police, is remembered for his valiant performance as a law-enforcement officer and for his devotion to his family, community, and fellow officers; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Carroll, who was off duty, tragically died in a motorcycle accident on June 26, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Ralph William Carroll, Sr., was born on August 4, 1949, a Martinsville native and the loving son of Ruth Bennett Johnson; and

WHEREAS, a master trooper with the Virginia State Police, Trooper Carroll served his neighbors as an excellent officer for more than 25 years and had been based at the Martinsville-Henry County office for the past 20 years; and

WHEREAS, committed to protecting and serving Virginia’s citizens and enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth, Trooper Carroll was a courageous and professional police officer, who was highly respected by his fellow law-enforcement officers; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Carroll was an avid member of the Virginia State Police Association, the Patrick Henry Patriots R/C hobby flyers’ club, and the Blue Ridge Cycle Club; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Carroll will be fondly remembered as a loving father and husband and greatly missed by his devoted wife, Tami Stultz Carroll; his daughter, Tina Carroll Vaughn; his two sons, Ralph Jr. and Rick William Carroll; his four grandchildren; and his numerous friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, the loss of Trooper Carroll is tragic, not only for his family but also for his fellow law-enforcement officers and the citizens of Virginia, and a reminder of the great sacrifices made by our police officers and all first responders throughout the Commonwealth and the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the passing of a dedicated public servant and an outstanding Virginian, Ralph William Carroll, Sr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ralph William Carroll, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
