2010 SESSION
WHEREAS, Jacqueline and Frederick J. Napolitano, Sr., of Virginia Beach, are honored in 2010 as the recipients of the Bishop’s Humanitarian Award for their longtime dedication and service to their fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Catholic Diocese Bishop’s Humanitarian Award is given annually to individuals in the Hampton Roads area who have distinguished themselves through outstanding community service and charitable work; and
WHEREAS, Frederick J. Napolitano, Sr., has been a real estate developer and a leader in the home building industry in Hampton Roads since 1955; he served as president of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and advised Congress on solutions to the nation’s homebuilding problems; and
WHEREAS, Jacqueline “Jackie” and Frederick “Fred” J. Napolitano, Sr., were named founding advocates of the National Housing Endowment, which is the philanthropic arm of the NAHB; and
WHEREAS, Fred Napolitano has served as the chairman of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and Forward Hampton Roads, as a member of the steering committee for Plan 2007, as a board member of Sentara Health Care, and as a task force member to create Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital; he is a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a member of the National Italian American Council and the Sons of Italy; and
WHEREAS, Fred Napolitano has received many awards and accolades for his many contributions to the city, including being honored as King Neptune IV at the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival in 1977; and
WHEREAS, over the years, both Jackie and Fred Napolitano have generously given their time and talents as members of the board of directors and advisory councils of numerous civic organizations; and
WHEREAS, Jackie and Fred Napolitano are faithful members of the parish of Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Virginia Beach and active in the church’s many missions in the community; and
WHEREAS, always willing to help citizens in need in their community especially young people, Jackie and Fred Napolitano have been steadfast supporters of the St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children and the Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia; and
WHEREAS, for more than 50 years, Jackie and Fred Napolitano have been dedicated to improving the quality of life of their fellow citizens in Virginia Beach and the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the Most Reverend Francis X. DiLorenzo will present Jackie and Fred Napolitano with the Bishop’s Humanitarian Award at a gala hosted by the Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel on February 27, 2010; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Jacqueline and Frederick J. Napolitano, Sr., as the recipients of the Bishop’s Humanitarian Award; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jacqueline and Frederick J. Napolitano, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for their many contributions to the Tidewater area and the community of Virginia Beach.
