WHEREAS, Frank Les Sisson, a revered citizen and an outstanding community leader, is recognized in 2010 for his many contributions to the Town of Montross; and

WHEREAS, a native of Montross, Les Sisson grew up in Westmoreland County, graduated from Washington and Lee High School in 1966, and attended Danville Technical School; and

WHEREAS, Les Sisson was practically a fixture in his dad’s store when he was growing up; and in 1968, he began working at Wakefield Furniture, a Whirlpool appliance franchise and furniture company that his father started in Montross; and

WHEREAS, Les Sisson has always taken great pride in the family business, and he became the owner and operator of the store when his father died in 1973; and

WHEREAS, devoted to his community and the safety of his neighbors, Les Sisson has been a member of the Westmoreland County Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years, was Fireman of the Year in 1990, and is a respected life member; he has served in many capacities for the fire station, including as chief and president; and

WHEREAS, because of his vast experience and knowledge of emergency services, Les Sisson was appointed to the county’s Fire and Rescue Strategic Planning Committee in October 2003; and

WHEREAS, a hardworking town leader, Les Sisson has generously given his time and expertise to numerous civic organizations over the years, including as a member of the Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce, the Fall Festival Committee, the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Montross Planning Commission, the Neighborhood Watch Committee, the Montross Revitalization Management Team, and the Bank of Lancaster’s Community Reinvestment Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, a valued citizen, Les Sisson has received many awards and accolades for his leadership and contributions to the community, such as the 2009 Distinguished Community Service Award by the Westmoreland Ruritan Club; the Employer of the Year award by the Rappahannock DECA; and a 2002 Business Leader of the Year award from the Westmoreland business community; and

WHEREAS, Les Sisson has earned certificates of appreciation for his outstanding service from the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors, the Washington and Lee Light Project, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 252; and

WHEREAS, Les Sisson is a faithful member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, where he has been a trustee, member, and president of the Andrew Chapel Men’s Group; he received the Andrew Chapel United Methodist Women’s service award for his exemplary service to the church and community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Frank Les Sisson for his outstanding community leadership and his many accomplishments; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Frank Les Sisson as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his dedication to the citizens of the Town of Montross and Westmoreland County.
