2010 SESSION
WHEREAS, Lorraine Thompson, the manager of election services for the State Board of Elections, retired on December 1, 2009, after 37 years of exemplary service to the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Lorraine Thompson started at the State Board of Elections in 1972 after relocating to Virginia and became manager of the elections services department in 1976; and
WHEREAS, Lorraine Thompson worked diligently for the State Board of Elections under the administrations of 10 governors and seven State Board of Elections secretaries; and
WHEREAS, known for her knowledge of election law and procedures, Lorraine Thompson provided expert guidance and information to numerous general registrars and members of local electoral boards; and
WHEREAS, during her years of outstanding service, Lorraine Thompson has seen many changes in the electoral process, including the increasing use of technology and changing laws; and
WHEREAS, Lorraine Thompson is known for her dedication and enthusiasm for the election process and her commitment to the State Board of Elections as the guardian of democracy in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Lorraine Thompson has served with great distinction and a strong commitment to excellence to ensure the fair and honest administration of elections in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, after 37 years of service, Lorraine Thompson looks forward to spending time with family and friends during her well-deserved retirement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Lorraine Thompson on her many years of outstanding service to the State Board of Elections and the citizens of Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lorraine Thompson as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her contributions to the electoral process in Virginia and best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement.
