2010 SESSION
WHEREAS, Bernard Joseph Natkin of Lexington, an admired citizen and the respected first county attorney for Rockbridge County, died on November 28, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Bernard Joseph Natkin, the beloved son of Mildred K. and Abraham H. Natkin, was a graduate of Roanoke College and the Washington and Lee University School of Law; and he married his first wife, the late Mary Jane Natkin; and
WHEREAS, Bernard Joseph Natkin served his country with the 69th Infantry Division in the United States Army and received the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart for his valiant service during World War II; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated and skilled attorney, Bernard Joseph Natkin practiced law in Lexington from 1950 to 2007; and
WHEREAS, a steadfast supporter of his community, Bernard Joseph Natkin served his fellow citizens as Rockbridge County’s first exemplary county attorney from 1977 until 1994; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Bernard Joseph Natkin gave his time and expertise to numerous professional and civic organizations, including as a distinguished member of the Virginia Bar Association and as a loyal member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and
WHEREAS, always willing to help his neighbors in need, Bernard Joseph Natkin was a faithful member of the Beth Israel Synagogue and was active in the temple’s many activities and programs in the community; and
WHEREAS, Bernard Joseph Natkin will be fondly remembered for his devotion to his family and his community and greatly missed by his wife, Betty C. Natkin; his daughters, Rhona N. Hessian, Tama N. Creef, and Tonya N. Tyree; his sons, H. David Natkin and Jonathan J. Natkin; his stepchildren, C. Carter McCrowell and Laurie Moses; his 12 grandchildren; and his many other loving family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine public servant and outstanding Virginian, Bernard Joseph Natkin; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Bernard Joseph Natkin as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
