SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 267
Commending Barry Green.

WHEREAS, Barry Green is commended for his outstanding longtime service to the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Barry Green, a hardworking state government leader for over 30 years, has served as the director of the Department of Juvenile Justice since 2005; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Brooklyn College and Virginia Commonwealth University, Barry Green has served as the manager of public safety and transportation at the Department of Planning and Budget and deputy director for finance and administration in the Department of Juvenile Justice; and

WHEREAS, Barry Green also served as deputy secretary in the Allen, Warner, and Kaine administrations in the Office of the Secretary of Public Safety, which oversees 14 state agencies, including the Departments of Corrections and Juvenile Justice as well as the State Police and Virginia Parole Board; and

WHEREAS, during the Warner administration and again in his current role, Barry Green has chaired the Governor’s working group on prisoner reentry, where he worked with a number of state, local, and nonprofit agencies to develop strategies to reduce recidivism among parolees; and

WHEREAS, Barry Green has generously shared his experience and expertise as a former adjunct faculty member in the Master of Public Administration program at Virginia Commonwealth University; and

WHEREAS, after decades of service to the Commonwealth, Barry Green believes his work with the Department of Juvenile Justice to improve local communities and the lives of the Commonwealth’s young people to be the most important of his career; and

WHEREAS, Barry Green’s commitment and dedication to the Commonwealth are a reflection of his integrity, caring heart, and passionate belief in serving others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend a dedicated Virginian, Barry Green, for his exemplary service to the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Barry Green as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and gratitude for his devotion to serving the residents of the Commonwealth.
