SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 255
Celebrating the life of Matthew Lyle Lacy III.

WHEREAS, Matthew Lyle Lacy III, the beloved city manager of Danville, died on March 3, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Matthew “Lyle” Lacy, a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and Texas Christian University, served the City of Danville as deputy city manager and interim city manager before being appointed city manager on March 1, 2009; and

WHEREAS, in addition to overseeing the daily operation of the City of Danville, Lyle Lacy, a man focused on solutions rather than problems, had been an integral part in many noteworthy projects in the Danville area; and

WHEREAS, Lyle Lacy coordinated, with the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, the development of a joint industrial mega park and, with the Office of Economic Development, the sale of the White Mill; and

WHEREAS, throughout his remarkable career as a public servant, Lyle Lacy also served as city manager of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; city manager of Marietta, Georgia; city manager of Alliance, Nebraska; and town manager of Front Royal, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, a model public servant who always demonstrated integrity, fairness, and determination, Lyle Lacy worked diligently throughout his life to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens and ensure the efficient operation of local government; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Lyle Lacy loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed canoe floats, boat rides, and hunting; and

WHEREAS, Lyle Lacy will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary Ann; his children, Matthew Lyle Lacy IV and Laura Lacy Hamilton, and their families; his many other family members and friends; and the citizens of Danville; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved and dedicated public servant, Matthew Lyle Lacy III; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Matthew Lyle Lacy III as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
