2010 SESSION
WHEREAS, Carolyn Moses Lusardi, a leading citizen of Brookneal, died on May 9, 2009; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Appomattox County High School, Carolyn Lusardi received a bachelor’s degree in library science from The College of William and Mary; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Lusardi married the love of her life, Vincent Lusardi, Sr., and together they raised their six children, Jean, Mary, Virginia, Vincent Joseph Lusardi, Jr., and the late Joseph and John; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Lusardi was a well-known figure to local young people as librarian at William Campbell High School; and
WHEREAS, a longtime resident of Brookneal, Carolyn Lusardi desired to serve her community and fellow citizens; she did so as mayor and Town Council member and also served on the Brookneal and Campbell County Bicentennial Commissions; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Lusardi’s contributions at Red Hill were legendary and she was a member, past president, and past president emeritus of the board of trustees of the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation; she also helped filmmakers produce an A&E documentary on the life of Patrick Henry in 1995; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Lusardi served on the Virginia Independence Bicentennial Commission (1965-1983) and on the State Commission that established the Virginia Community College System; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Lusardi also generously gave of her time and talents as an advisory board member of the Patrick Henry Boys & Girls Home and as a member of the Staunton River and Campbell County Historical Societies, Brookneal Woman’s Club, and Brookneal United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Lusardi also served as the organizing regent of the Red Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and as District III secretary as well as past president of the Red Hill Garden Club; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Lusardi received many awards and accolades for her involvement in the community, including the Community Builders Award by the Staunton River Masonic Lodge No. 155, Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Community Service Award, and The College of William and Mary Public Service in Virginia Award; she was named Citizen of the Year by the Brookneal Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Lusardi leaves behind a rich legacy of love for her family and service to the community and Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Lusardi will be greatly missed by her surviving children, Jean Carolyn Lusardi, Mary Teresa Colbert, Virginia Godwin Cox, and Vincent Joseph Lusardi, Jr., and their families; her numerous other family members and friends; and the Town of Brookneal; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the loss of Carolyn Moses Lusardi; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Carolyn Moses Lusardi as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
