SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 234
Celebrating the life of Gene Paul Moore.

WHEREAS, Gene Paul Moore, an admired educator and dedicated public servant, died on November 25, 2009; and

WHEREAS, born on April 26, 1933, Gene Moore proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 as a classified document courier before pursuing a career in education; and

WHEREAS, a beloved and caring educator, Gene Moore spent his professional life working on behalf of children, including service as the director of special education for Fairfax County Public Schools and as principal of the Belle Willard Center; and

WHEREAS, an able and effective administrator, Gene Moore worked diligently with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure the best education for students; and

WHEREAS, desirous to serve his community and fellow citizens, Gene Moore served from 1984 to 1990 on the Fairfax City Council, where he was an articulate and effective member; and

WHEREAS, Gene Moore continued his public service from 1994 to 2002 on the City of Fairfax School Board, where his experience and expertise in education were of great benefit; and

WHEREAS, a passionate advocate for all children, Gene Moore generously gave of his time and talents to the Council for Exceptional Children and the local and national Special Olympics; and

WHEREAS, Gene Moore was also a longtime, ardent member of the Northern Virginia Marching & Gavel Society; and

WHEREAS, Gene Moore will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and greatly missed by his foster sons, Guy Smoot, Daniel Owens, Robin Moore, and James Patton, and their families; his brothers, Bill and Jack Moore; and his numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated educator and public servant and outstanding Virginian, Gene Paul Moore; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gene Paul Moore as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
