SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 232
Commending Virginia Green.

WHEREAS, Virginia Green is a partnership between the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Virginia Tourism Corporation, and the Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association; and

WHEREAS, preserving the environment and Virginia’s many natural assets helps to ensure a sustainable tourism economy for the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Green is a voluntary, certified program of core activities to support and promote “greener” hospitality and tourism businesses; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia hospitality and tourism industries have achieved great success in highlighting efficient business practices that benefit the consumer, business, workforce, and surrounding environment and natural resources; and

WHEREAS, currently, 600 Virginia Green certified members from the restaurant, lodging, and tourism industries are located throughout the Commonwealth, and the program’s goal is to enlist 1,000 certified members by December 31, 2010; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the hospitality and tourism industries for their leadership and efforts in support of the Virginia Green program; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Department of Environmental Quality, the Virginia Tourism Corporation, and the Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the achievements of the Virginia Green program.
