10105682DWHEREAS, C.J. Woollum, the outstanding head coach of men’s basketball at Christopher Newport University, has reached his 500th career win; and
WHEREAS, C.J. Woollum becomes the first Division III men’s basketball coach in the Commonwealth and just the 27th coach in Division III history to reach 500 wins; and
WHEREAS, a nationally admired and respected coach, C.J. Woollum is 16th on the list of active Division III coaches in victories; and
WHEREAS, in his 26th season at Christopher Newport University, C.J. Woollum has coached the Captains in 720 career games; and
WHEREAS, under C.J. Woollum, the Captains have won 69 percent of their games, an average of 19 games per season; and
WHEREAS, with over 400 schools playing Division III men’s basketball in the country, C.J. Woollum has led the Christopher Newport University program to the 10th best record of all time; and
WHEREAS, C.J. Woollum has led the Christopher Newport University men’s basketball team in its domination of the Dixie and USA South Conferences, where the team has won 73 percent of conference games; and
WHEREAS, under the expert direction of C.J. Woollum, the Captains have prospered, achieving national recognition by making it to the NCAA Tournament 16 times; and
WHEREAS, during his legendary career, C.J. Woollum has brought the Captains basketball program to a consistent level of excellence, producing exceptional athletes and bringing recognition to Christopher Newport University; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend C.J. Woollum on achieving a milestone victory in his outstanding career as head basketball coach at Christopher Newport University; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to C.J. Woollum as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and best wishes for continued success.
