SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 225
Commending the Family Foundation of Virginia on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Family Foundation of Virginia celebrates 25 years of working on behalf of families and traditional values in Virginia in 2010; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1985 by Walt Barbee, the Family Foundation of Virginia is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that seeks to establish through citizen advocacy and enactment of Virginia law, a safe, prosperous, and wholesome climate for families; and

WHEREAS, the Family Foundation of Virginia bases all of its public policy decisions on the principles of life, marriage, parental authority, constitutional government, and religious liberty; and

WHEREAS, the Family Foundation of Virginia researches issues, educates lawmakers, provides critical data, and coordinates statewide support for positive initiatives designed to enhance the culture in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the Family Foundation of Virginia has enjoyed many significant legislative victories including adding the subject of the benefits and value of marriage to the Family Life Education Curriculum, outlawing riverboat gambling, establishing parental notification for abortion, defining marriage through a constitutional amendment, and installing Internet filters on public library computers; and

WHEREAS, the Family Foundation of Virginia has grown over the years and now has a full-time professional staff in Richmond that coordinates the grassroots efforts of a network of tens of thousands of pro-family citizen activists throughout Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the Family Foundation of Virginia has partnered with Family Foundation Action to produce and distribute nonpartisan voter guides and report cards and has also established a statewide network of Pastors for Family Values; and

WHEREAS, the Family Foundation of Virginia is supported through the generosity of individual Virginians, churches, businesses, foundations, and civic organizations; and

WHEREAS, the Family Foundation of Virginia proudly celebrates 25 years of strengthening Virginia families in 2010; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Family Foundation of Virginia on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Family Foundation of Virginia as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for the Foundation’s work for families and traditional values in Virginia.
