SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 218
Commending Eric R. Glueckert.

WHEREAS, Officer Eric R. Glueckert, the Fairfax County 2009 First Responder Police Officer of the Year, was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a 2010 Best of Reston award; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Officer Glueckert works on assignment for the midnight A-squad at the Reston District Station and has been recognized by his peers and supervisors as showing outstanding investigative skill, sound judgment, and assistance to fellow officers in investigating several high-level cases in the past year; and

WHEREAS, in one case involving two victims with severe stab wounds, Officer Glueckert quickly secured the outdoor scene and conducted a thorough interview of victims and witnesses; as a result, he was able to establish some solid leads on the identity of the suspects; and

WHEREAS, a second case involved a major public disturbance by a severely mentally challenged person who began asking the police officers to shoot him; Officer Glueckert was able to talk to the man and calm him down, enabling the officers to take the subject into custody without anyone being hurt; and

WHEREAS, a diligent investigator, Officer Glueckert received the Officer of the Quarter recognition for his investigation of a grand larceny case that led to the recovery of weapons and a known criminal being taken off the streets; and

WHEREAS, Officer Glueckert earned a nomination for a Life Saving Award is now under consideration for a Valor Award for his extraordinary response and care in a suicide case; upon arrival, Officer Glueckert, although his personal protection mask was not available, immediately began chest compressions and rescue breaths in an effort to revive the victim; and

WHEREAS, Officer Glueckert’s attention to detail, persistence, and compassion for those he serves make him a truly outstanding police officer and his ongoing commitment to excellence is in the finest tradition of the Fairfax County Police Department; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Eric R. Glueckert on his outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia and on his well-deserved honor as a 2010 Best of Reston award recipient; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Eric R. Glueckert as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his efforts on behalf of the community of Reston.
