SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 20 Celebrating the life of Theo Bryant Marsh.   Agreed to by the Senate, January 14, 2010 Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 22, 2010  

WHEREAS, the Reverend Theo Bryant Marsh of Martinsville, a respected citizen, minister and outstanding community supporter, died on September 19, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Theo Bryant “T. B.” Marsh was born on September 27, 1922, in Goldston, North Carolina, the son of Coley and Mary Jones Marsh, and he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie Rosebud Marsh; and

WHEREAS, an American patriot, T. B. Marsh valiantly served his country in the United States Army during World War II; and

WHEREAS, on September 4, 1964, the Rev. T. B. Marsh answered a call to the ministry and was ordained and elected pastor of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, where he served his congregation with great joy and dedication for 38 years; and

WHEREAS, an industrious leader, volunteer, and mentor, Rev. T. B. Marsh continued to serve his community after his retirement on December 21, 2002, as well as serve as pastor emeritus at his church; and

WHEREAS, in 2004, Rev. T. B. Marsh traveled to Paris, France, to celebrate France’s independence through the Normandy invasion and to receive the American Society of the French Legion of Honor award at a special ceremony; and

WHEREAS, Rev. T. B. Marsh gave his time and talents to many civic organizations, including the American Legion Homer Dillard Post No. 78; and

WHEREAS, Rev. T. B. Marsh will be fondly remembered for his gracious and giving manner and greatly missed by his devoted wife of seven years, Mary N. Marsh; his five sons and their wonderful families, including 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and his numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, the Reverend Theo Bryant Marsh; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Reverend Theo Bryant Marsh as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
