Commending Vincent A. Tassa, Jr.

WHEREAS, Vincent A. Tassa, Jr., was born on March 11, 1943, in Washington, D.C., and attended Chamberlain High School; and 

WHEREAS, Vincent A. Tassa married Marie Agnes Clarke on October 19, 1963, and the couple have five children, Daniel Gabriel Tassa, Vincent Amato Tassa III, Anthony Michael Tassa, Teresa Marie Gardiner, and Gina Marie Piccoli; and

WHEREAS, on March 11, 1964, Vincent Tassa joined the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Tassa attended the University of Maryland, where he studied criminal justice; during his career, he graduated from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy, Metropolitan Police Academy, White House and United States Park Police Academy, Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs training program, and other criminal justice academies; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Tassa was seriously injured in 1966 in the line of duty and retired from the Washington Metropolitan Police Department in January 1967; and

WHEREAS, in 1968, Vincent Tassa joined the Prince William County Sheriff’s Office and attended Criminal Justice Courtroom Security training; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Tassa was appointed justice of the peace by the Honorable Arthur Sinclair, a Prince William County Circuit Court judge, in July 1970; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Tassa was appointed magistrate for the 31st Judicial District by the Honorable H. Selwyn Smith of the Prince William County Circuit Court in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Tassa attended the Supreme Court Certification Academy for Magistrates in Virginia in 1985 and continued his legal education with the Virginia Supreme Court; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Tassa is a marriage celebrant and has performed more than 1,000 wedding ceremonies; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Tassa has given generously of his time and talents throughout the years; he has prepared spaghetti dinners, sang, and played music for churches, Lions Clubs, Masonic Lodges, Knights of Columbus, Prince William Hospital, Caton Merchant House, district homes, children’s homes, cystic fibrosis events, weddings, political functions, school booster clubs, drama clubs, funerals, and many more charitable and personal events; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Tassa retired from the Virginia Magistrate System on January 1, 2010; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Vincent A. Tassa, Jr., on a remarkable and brilliant career in the field of the administration of justice; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Vincent A. Tassa, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for his devotion to justice in the Commonwealth.
