SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 105
Celebrating the life of William Glynn Loope.

WHEREAS, William Glynn Loope, a former member of the Board of Supervisors of Botetourt County, died on August 28, 2009; and

WHEREAS, the son of Howard and Katherine Loope, William “Bill” Loope graduated from Buchanan High School, where he served as senior class president, and attended Virginia Tech; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated and valued employee, Bill Loope worked for the Appalachian Power Company for 38 years before retiring to enjoy his passions of travel and photography and to spend time with his precious granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, Bill Loope loved serving others and throughout his life was actively involved in various community organizations, including the Jaycees; he served as past president of the Botetourt County Jaycees and as state vice president with the Virginia Jaycees; and

WHEREAS, Bill Loope also served as past president of the Bonsack/Blue Ridge Ruritan Club and was actively involved with Gideons International and Bonsack Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Bill Loope proudly served Botetourt County on the Board of Supervisors from 1992 until 2004, where he was chairman three times and vice-chairman four times; he also served on the Botetourt County Planning Commission and Electoral Board; and

WHEREAS, a caring and compassionate man, Bill Loope worked diligently on behalf of his constituents; he was committed to improving the county’s education system and expanding its economic development efforts; and

WHEREAS, Bill Loope leaves behind a legacy of service to his family, church, and community and will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary; son Glynn and daughter Michelle; granddaughter Emilee; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated community servant, William Glynn Loope; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Glynn Loope as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
