10102791DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 16.1-266.3 as follows:
§ 16.1-266.3. Appointment of counsel for juveniles in correctional facilities.
The judge of a juvenile and domestic relations district court in whose county or city a state juvenile correctional facility is located shall appoint, for a period of one year at a time, one or more diligent and competent attorneys to counsel and assist juveniles confined to such facilities regarding any legal matter relating to their confinement.
An attorney so appointed shall be paid as directed by the court from the criminal fund reasonable compensation on an hourly basis and necessary expenses based upon monthly reports to be furnished the court by the attorney.
