HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 25
Celebrating the life of Wilbert Theodore Borum.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 10, 2010

 

WHEREAS, Wilbert Theodore Borum, a devoted husband, father, and respected citizen, died on October 20, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Wilbert Borum was born on October 10, 1932, in Hornsbyville, Virginia, to loving parents, Alphonso Borum and Sadie Cooke Borum and was one of three siblings; and

WHEREAS, a hard-working student, Wilbert Borum graduated with honors from the York County Training School and received a bachelor’s degree from Hampton Institute (now Hampton University) before proudly serving his country in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, Wilbert Borum was a skilled bricklayer and engineer and spent time in Sierre Leone, West Africa, where he taught the art of masonry; and

WHEREAS, a valued member of the Hampton University family, Wilbert Borum enjoyed a 30-year career at his alma mater, where he oversaw the campus’ HVAC and new construction with great attention to detail and commitment to service; and

WHEREAS, an avid sports fan, Wilbert Borum particularly enjoyed boxing and track and field; he was also an excellent bowler who earned numerous trophies and titles throughout the years; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Wilbert Borum will be remembered for his wit and wisdom and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Ethel; their children, Michael, Cathy, Jennifer, and Colette and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Wilbert Theodore Borum; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Wilbert Theodore Borum as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
