HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 20
Commending Anne Larrick and her Powhatan High School science students.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 19, 2010

 

WHEREAS, Anne Larrick and her Powhatan High School science students are recognized for their outstanding service to Powhatan County and their fellow citizens; and

WHEREAS, as Rachel Carson well declared, “Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts”; and

WHEREAS, the beauties of the earth of Powhatan are being observed in detail by some 200 students of Powhatan High School; and

WHEREAS, under the direction of Anne Larrick, Science Standards of Learning Coordinator for Powhatan County Schools, the students are conducting disciplined field research on lands destined to become Powhatan’s state park; and

WHEREAS, the students’ efforts are being underwritten by a substantial grant from Virginia Commonwealth University, eight of whose professors are engaged in the project; and

WHEREAS, the students are collecting precise information about the land, the water, the flora and the fauna, the wildlife, and the creatures of streams and pools in areas to be included in the park; and

WHEREAS, the research findings of the students will be invaluable to the Commonwealth’s Department of Conservation and Recreation in monitoring the well-being of the park for the foreseeable future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates commend Anne Larrick and her Powhatan High School science students and salute the exemplary endeavors of all involved in this remarkable venture to provide a permanent record of the contours, conditions, and creatures of a state park in the making; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Anne Larrick and her Powhatan High School students in appreciation of their contributions to the well-being of one of the fairest of all natural places in Virginia.
