Commending the Wallops Flight Facility on the occasion of its 65th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Wallops Flight Facility, located on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, is part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and its Goddard Space Flight Center; and

WHEREAS, throughout its 65 years of existence, the Wallops Flight Facility, with its highly skilled and dedicated staff, has been a major contributor to the nation’s space exploration and economic, educational, and scientific development; and

WHEREAS, in 1945 the Wallops Flight Facility began as the Pilotless Aircraft Research Station under the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics as part of the Langley Aeronautical Laboratory in Hampton; and

WHEREAS, the Wallops Flight Facility has supported commercial space and national security technology development for the past 65 years; and

WHEREAS, the Wallops Flight Facility has launched rocket-propelled research vehicles and scientific balloons and conducted thousands of aeronautical and aircraft tests to gain research information on flight characteristics of aircraft and spacecraft to increase knowledge of both earth and space environments; and

WHEREAS, the ground-breaking research at the Wallops Flight Facility has led to significant contributions to the nation’s and the Commonwealth’s space, science, and aviation programs; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Wallops Flight Facility on the occasion of its 65th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Wallops Flight Facility in honor of its 65 years of service to the nation.
