2010 SESSION
WHEREAS, Team Fairfax is recognized for its outstanding accomplishment in successfully bringing the 2015 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) to Fairfax County; and
WHEREAS, Team Fairfax is made up of representatives from Fairfax County, Visit Fairfax, Fairfax County Police Department, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office, Greater Washington Sports Alliance, and other community organizations; and
WHEREAS, in its mission to host the WPFG in Fairfax County, Team Fairfax has received the steadfast support of the Virginia Tourism Corporation and other agencies of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the WPFG is a biennial athletic event open to active and retired law enforcement, fire, and first responder service personnel throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, the WPFG hosts approximately 65 sporting events, much like the Summer Olympic Games, with more than 10,000 participants in a wide array of competitions, such as angling, basketball, bowling, cycling, darts, flag football, pistol shooting, soccer, swimming, track and field, triathlon, volleyball, wrestling, and many other exciting events; and
WHEREAS, the WPFG’s gala opening ceremony and festivities will take place at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, proposed dates for WPFG are from June 26 to July 5 and events will be held at Fairfax County venues such as Bull Run Regional Park, Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy, George Mason University, and Reston Town Center, which will serve as the Athletes’ Village and Game Central; and
WHEREAS, the WPFG’s 30th anniversary coincides in 2015 with the 75th anniversary of the Fairfax County Police Department, which will make the event even more memorable; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Team Fairfax and Fairfax County as the hosts of the 2015 World Police and Fire Games; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Team Fairfax and Fairfax County as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of the organizations’ hard work and commitment and best wishes for a successful World Police and Fire Games in 2015.
