Celebrating the life of Charles Francis Curtis.

WHEREAS, Charles Francis Curtis of Danville, a respected citizen, loyal friend, and community supporter, died on January 23, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Charles “Charlie” Francis Curtis was born in Culpeper on March 22, 1932, a son of the late Cary Randolph Curtis and Helen Shacklelford Curtis; and

WHEREAS, an honest and hard-working businessman, Charlie Curtis lived most of his life in Danville, where he owned and operated C.F. Curtis & Sons Masonry, Inc., until he retired for health reasons; and

WHEREAS, on June 20, 1951, Charles Francis Curtis married Janie Carmichael, and they were married for nearly 60 years; and

WHEREAS, committed to giving back to the community, Charlie Curtis generously volunteered his time and expertise to many civic activities; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Curtis was a faithful member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church, where he served as a trustee and was active in the church's many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, the patriarch of a large, loving family, Charlie Curtis enjoyed hunting with his good friends, relatives, and his faithful companion Billy and spending memorable and happy times with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Curtis will be fondly remembered for his integrity and his devotion to his family and community and will be greatly missed by his wife, Janie Curtis; his three sons, Randolph "Randy" Curtis and wife Patricia, Charles W. "Chuck" Curtis and wife Regina, David Ray Curtis and wife Pam; his two daughters, Fran Curtis Johnson and husband Gray and Ann Curtis Scearce and husband Donnie; his brothers and sister; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Charles Francis Curtis; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles Francis Curtis as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
