HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 426 Offered March 5, 2010 Commending the Christiansburg High School wrestling team. ---------- Patron-- Nutter and Shuler; Senators: Edwards and Smith ----------

WHEREAS, the 2010 Christiansburg High School Blue Demons wrestling team captured its ninth Virginia High School League Group AA state wrestling championship; and

WHEREAS, to win the state title, the Christiansburg Blue Demons defeated Group AA power Grundy High School; and

WHEREAS, four Blue Demons wrestlers—Devin Carter, Joey Dance, Zach Epperly, and Rich Eva—won individual state championships; and

WHEREAS, other Christiansburg wrestlers added valuable points to Christiansburg’s team total of 175, just enough to top Grundy’s 166; and

WHEREAS, the victory by Coach Daryl Weber’s Christiansburg squad was a result of the talent, hard work and confidence of the athletes, the leadership of the coaching staff, and the support of the school and the Christiansburg community; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Devils defeated Grundy High School in 2002 to end Grundy’s domination of state Group AA wrestling and begin their own wrestling dynasty, which has continued into the 2010 season; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Christiansburg High School wrestling team on their 2010 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Daryl Weber in honor of the championship performance of the Christiansburg High School Blue Demons.
