Commending Nannie P. Calloway.

WHEREAS, Nannie P. Calloway of Roanoke celebrated her 105th birthday on February 22, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Nannie Calloway was born February 22, 1905, in Franklin County, Virginia, to loving parents Frank and Sarina Poindexter and at the age of 21, married the love of her life, Julian Calloway; and

WHEREAS, a hard-working and valuable employee, Nannie Calloway worked diligently caring for people, sewing, ironing, and cleaning homes; she also worked at the Hotel Roanoke, where she made $20 every two weeks; and

WHEREAS, Nannie Calloway is a faithful and active member of Williams Memorial Baptist Church and in 2006, received a Certificate of Faithful Service from the Virginia Baptist State Convention for her 35 years of service as a deaconess; and

WHEREAS, in 2005 Nannie Calloway was awarded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award for promoting the dream of peace, unity, and justice; and

WHEREAS, with the life motto of “Go slow, so you can go some more; go fast you don’t last,” Nannie Calloway has led a long and productive life marked by service to others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Nannie P. Calloway on the occasion of her 105th birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nannie P. Calloway as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for her lifetime of service.
