HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 411
Celebrating the life of William Eugene Gallahan, Jr.

WHEREAS, William Eugene Gallahan, Jr., a respected and admired citizen and community leader from Stafford County, died on January 26, 2010; and

WHEREAS, William “Billy” Gallahan was born at the family home place on Route 610 on June 10, 1931, to loving parents William and Agnes Gallahan, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Billy Gallahan graduated from Stafford High School and joined the United States Navy in 1951 where he proudly served as a machinist for three years; and

WHEREAS, a hard-working and valued employee, Billy Gallahan continued his work as a machinist at Possum Point before going to work at Fort Belvoir as a model maker for the Engineer School; he retired from Fort Belvoir as a supervisor after 30 years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, later in life, Billy Gallahan and his wife acquired their own farm which he named the “Do Little Farm”; however, he always found projects to work on and ultimately transformed the barn into a popular community gathering place; and

WHEREAS, known for his hospitality and good nature, Billy Gallahan hosted numerous church dances, Boy Scouts activities, and Republican party functions in the renovated barn; and

WHEREAS, Billy Gallahan also generously gave of his time and talents in the community as one of the original members of the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department, member of American Legion Post 290, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and first honorary member of the Stafford Sheriff’s Department; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Billy Gallahan took care of both his aged parents until their passing and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Billy Gallahan will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Mary Ann; children, William, Patricia, and Katherine; grandchildren Jason and Matt; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated community leader and respected citizen, William Eugene Gallahan, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Eugene Gallahan, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
