2010 SESSION
WHEREAS, Vernon L. Wood, a member of the Amherst County Board of Supervisors and dedicated public servant, retired on December 31, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Vernon Wood began his exemplary service on the Amherst County Board of Supervisors on November 18, 1997; and
WHEREAS, known for his personable manner and professional service, Vernon Wood faithfully served and represented the citizens of District 2 until his retirement from the Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, respected by his fellow members, Vernon Wood provided strong leadership during his tenure as chairman of the Board of Supervisors in 2000, 2004, and 2008 and worked diligently to ensure that the local government ran efficiently; and
WHEREAS, Vernon Wood served on the Emergency Services Council, Joint Cooperation Committee, and Rescue Squad Advisory Board and as the school board liaison while a member of the Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, Vernon Wood has also generously given of his time and talents in the community as a member of the Industrial Development Board and Amherst Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, after successful careers in education and insurance and 12 years of public service, Vernon Wood looks forward to spending time with his beloved wife of 45 years, Barbara; their two children and four grandchildren; and to visiting Myrtle Beach; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated public servant, Vernon Wood demonstrated great integrity, enthusiasm, and commitment to improving the lives of the residents of Amherst County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend a dedicated public servant and outstanding Virginian, Vernon L. Wood; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Vernon L. Wood as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and gratitude for his many contributions to Amherst County.
