10105639DWHEREAS, E. Harris Spindle of Fredericksburg, the community affairs manager of Senior Connections, The Capital Area Agency on Aging (CAAA), is recognized in 2010 for his advocacy on behalf of Virginia’s older citizens and his outstanding service to his community; and
WHEREAS, Harris Spindle has been invaluable in developing and implementing the very successful Empty Plate Luncheon, which is Senior Connections CAAA’s largest fundraiser; and
WHEREAS, through the hard work of Harris Spindle, staff, and enthusiastic volunteers, the Empty Plate Luncheon is annually held in the fall and is sponsored by the Science Museum of Virginia; it attracts between 300 and 400 attendees and results in greatly needed funds from individual ticket sales and generous corporate sponsors; and
WHEREAS, the Empty Plate Campaign slogan is “$50.00 Fills An Empty Plate 12 Times For A Senior in Need,” and the gala Science Museum of Virginia event raises funds for home-delivered meals, transportation assistance, and other vital services for older citizens; and
WHEREAS, Harris Spindle has worked with Andy Nea of the Williams Mullen law firm in creating Senior Law Days, enabling seniors of moderate to low income to receive free legal advice to prepare wills, powers of attorney, and advance medical directives; and
WHEREAS, Harris Spindle recruits and trains senior advocates to work on behalf of Virginia's aging population on the local level, as well as during the General Assembly session; and
WHEREAS, Harris Spindle works closely with civic and nonprofit entities, state agencies, and national organizations such as AARP to help improve the lives of seniors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate E. Harris Spindle for his advocacy on behalf of Virginia’s older citizens and his outstanding service to his community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to E. Harris Spindle as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation of his many accomplishments and best wishes for continued success.
