Celebrating the life of Lawona R. Spencer.

WHEREAS, Lawona R. Spencer, a respected citizen and outstanding community supporter and volunteer, died suddenly on January 18, 2010; and

WHEREAS, a longtime Arlington resident, Lawona (Randy) Spencer was born on February 11, 1923; and

WHEREAS, Randy Spencer was a career employee with the United States Air Force where she met, fell in love with, and married her husband of over 40 years, Col. Loren J. Spencer, USAF Ret.; Randy ended her Air Force career retiring from the Pentagon; and

WHEREAS, Randy Spencer generously gave her time and expertise to many civic organizations, including the Thunderbird Society of the Air Force Association, where she and her husband were members for many years; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Randy Spencer tirelessly and selflessly gave of her time to the Arlington Republican Women’s Club, the Virginia Federation of Republican Women, and the National Federation of Republican Women; and

WHEREAS, Randy Spencer served as president of the Arlington Republican Women’s Club in 1991 and again in 1994 and over the years selflessly held numerous other positions on its executive board and as parliamentarian and awards chair; and

WHEREAS, Randy Spencer nobly served as a Regent with the National Federation of Republican Women and held the position of Regent Chair with the Virginia Federation of Republican Women; and

WHEREAS, Randy Spencer served two terms as 8th District Chair for the Virginia Federation; and

WHEREAS, at the time of her passing, she was serving on the nominating committee for the Virginia Federation of Republican Women and as parliamentarian and bylaws chair for the Arlington Republican Women’s Club; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic volunteer and an inspiration to all who knew her well, Randy Spencer was a role model and mentor to women across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, a warm, loving, and gracious woman, Randy Spencer will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of over 40 years, Loren Spencer; her family; and the members of the Virginia Federation of Republican Women; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding community supporter and volunteer and a fine Virginian, Lawona R. Spencer; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lawona R. Spencer as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
