10105449DWHEREAS, Rosemary Tran Lauer and Devotion to Children are recognized in 2010 as recipients of a Northern Virginia Family Services We Are America Now award; and
WHEREAS, We Are America Now is an event that celebrates the measurable contributions of immigrants to the greater Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia community; and
WHEREAS, the mission of We Are America Now is to increase awareness of the positive contributions and outstanding achievements of immigrants and recognize their indispensable value in the Northern Virginia region; and
WHEREAS, in 1975, speaking very little English, Rosemary Tran Lauer came to the United States from Vietnam as a single mother with two children and no college education; and
WHEREAS, with the assistance of friends who helped care for her children, Rosemary Tran Lauer worked at multiple jobs while earning a cosmetology degree; and
WHEREAS, a savvy and highly successful business woman, Rosemary Tran Lauer flourished in the beauty industry as the owner and operator of three beauty salons for over 20 years; and
WHEREAS, after being treated for breast cancer, Rosemary Tran Lauer made a career change and became a commercial realtor with Long and Foster; she now heads the Lauer Group, which is made up of a diverse group of people who speak many languages; and
WHEREAS, committed to giving back to the community, Rosemary Tran Lauer saw the great need of both unemployed and working parents to obtain access to affordable and quality preschool, daycare, and health and education services, which may be unavailable to families without outside assistance; and
WHEREAS, in 1994 Rosemary Tran Lauer established Devotion To Children in Falls Church as a nonprofit organization committed to helping meet the needs of children from birth to age six, enabling them to become healthy and productive members of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Devotion To Children partners with other civic organizations and advocacy groups to provide child care and health and educational services for families in need; and
WHEREAS, Rosemary Tran Lauer has received many awards and accolades over the years for her many contributions to her profession and to her community; and her biography was included in the Marquis Who's Who in America in 1999; and
WHEREAS, an excellent model for others, Rosemary Tran Lauer will be honored at the celebratory We Are America Now breakfast and awards program on March 5, 2010, at the Fairview Park Marriott in Falls Church; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Rosemary Tran Lauer and the staff and supporters of Devotion to Children on their outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia and on their well-deserved honor as recipients of a 2010 We Are America Now award; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rosemary Tran Lauer on behalf of Devotion to Children as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of the organization’s many achievements and best wishes for continued success.
