10105729DWHEREAS, Clayton T. Lester is commended for his 47 years of service to the Danville Life Saving Crew; and
WHEREAS, with a background in banking, Clayton Lester joined the Danville Life Saving Crew on March 10, 1962, and put his financial experience to work as the assistant business manager and then later as business manager and member of the board of directors for almost four decades; and
WHEREAS, while Clayton Lester was in the business office, the Danville Life Saving Crew became financially stable and was able to purchase vehicles and equipment in a time before grants and government assistance; and
WHEREAS, also during Clayton Lester’s time in the business office, the Danville Life Saving Crew became an Advanced Life Support agency, certified the first EMT-CTs for the Danville area, developed a memorial donation program to help support operations, and installed a helipad for patient transfers from the local hospital; and
WHEREAS, a natural and respected leader, Clayton Lester also served as captain of the Danville Life Saving Crew and president of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads, where he worked diligently on behalf of the citizens of Danville, his fellow crew members, and Virginia volunteer rescue squads; and
WHEREAS, Clayton Lester has been honored for his service with induction into the Julian Stanley Wise Hall of Fame and the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads Rescue Hall of Fame and lifetime membership in the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads; and
WHEREAS, the Danville Life Saving Crew honored Clayton Lester in 2009 with a proclamation and by naming the original crew hall in his honor; and
WHEREAS, a man of great compassion and integrity, Clayton Lester has faithfully served his community for almost five decades and serves as an exemplary role model for others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Clayton T. Lester for his 47 years of service to the Danville Life Saving Crew; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Clayton T. Lester as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his years of service to the citizens of Danville.
