2010 SESSION
10105394DWHEREAS, Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., (WSSI) was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2010 Best of Reston Award; and
WHEREAS, the Best of Reston Awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the Reston community and improving the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, the leading natural and cultural resources consultant in Northern Virginia, WSSI is staffed by exemplary wetlands scientists, engineers, regulatory specialists, and archaeologists who help developers and public agencies improve water quality in the region of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries; and
WHEREAS, for over five years, WSSI has partnered with the Peterson Companies and the Reston Association, conducting a stream restoration project, the Northern Virginia Stream Restoration Bank (NVSRB), which will help restore approximately 29 miles of degraded streams by decreasing storm water runoff in the Reston area; and
WHEREAS, natural areas along Reston’s streams are being enhanced through NVSRB with the help of conservation-oriented activities held by area schools, such as South Lakes High School and Terraset Elementary School, local nature centers, and other civic groups; and
WHEREAS, the WSSI staff has volunteered over 3,000 hours to help educate the community and encourage Reston residents to get involved in NVSRB by sponsoring Plant-Save Days, donating over 2,000 plants, and sponsoring hands-on booths at Reston’s Earth Day and many other events; and
WHEREAS, WSSI has been recognized as a leader in environmental preservation by Washington SmartCEO, Fairfax County Government, the Greater Washington Business Green Awards, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency; and
WHEREAS, with offices in a LEED Platinum building with eco-friendly features, Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., is a valuable partner of Reston, helping the community become a better place to live, work, and enjoy, as well as providing an excellent model for other organizations across the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., on its outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia and on its well-deserved honor as a 2010 Best of Reston Award recipient; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of the organization’s many achievements and best wishes for continued success.
