2010 SESSION
WHEREAS, Gary B. O'Connell, City Manager of Charlottesville, is recognized in 2010 for his outstanding service to his community and his fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS, a proven leader experienced in city management, Gary O'Connell served as deputy city manager for 14 years before being chosen city manager in 1995; and
WHEREAS, through pragmatism and a common sense approach to problem solving, Gary O’Connell led the City of Charlottesville through difficult economic times in the 1990s and helped develop a strategic plan to increase future economic development and the quality of life for city residents; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Gary O'Connell has supported and helped implement improvements in Charlottesville’s infrastructure and in many other programs, including essential city services, public safety, historic preservation, parks and recreation, housing, and energy consumption; and
WHEREAS, in May 2010, Gary O'Connell will become the executive director of the Albemarle County Service Authority; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Gary B. O'Connell for his exemplary leadership as city manager of the City of Charlottesville; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gary B. O'Connell as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for his many achievements and best wishes in all his future endeavors.
