WHEREAS, Gary J. Rasmussen is commended for his longtime service to his fellow citizens on the City of Fairfax City Council; and

WHEREAS, Gary Rasmussen received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and completed graduate work at the University of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, a member of the Senior Executive Service, Gary Rasmussen retired in 1999 from the federal government after a 36-year career that included positions in both congressional and executive offices; his last position was deputy assistant secretary for vocational and adult education with the United States Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, a resident of the City of Fairfax since 1962 and committed to improving the quality of life for his fellow residents, Gary Rasmussen decided to run for office and use his time and talents for the City of Fairfax; and

WHEREAS, through 10 terms on the City Council, Gary Rasmussen has been an articulate and effective Council member; and

WHEREAS, Gary Rasmussen served as chair of the Planning Commission, as well as the Council representative to the Northern Virginia Planning District Commission and the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission; and

WHEREAS, Gary Rasmussen’s dedication to public service is greatly appreciated by the citizens of the City of Fairfax and the Commonwealth of Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend a dedicated and effective public servant, Gary J. Rasmussen; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gary J. Rasmussen as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his service to the City of Fairfax and the Commonwealth.
