HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 303
Commending Sean Gleason.

WHEREAS, Sean Gleason is recognized for his outstanding service to his fellow citizens and the Commonwealth as the director of the Colonial Heights Recreation and Parks Department; and

WHEREAS, a native of Ventnor City, New Jersey, Sean Gleason earned a master's degree in community recreation at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts; and

WHEREAS, Sean Gleason served as director of the community center in Harrisonburg for 10 years before coming to work for the City of Colonial Heights; and

WHEREAS, as director of the Colonial Heights Recreation and Parks Department, Sean Gleason has been committed to the agency’s vision to enhance the quality of life of residents by promoting safe and healthy lifestyles and by providing quality recreational, cultural, historical, educational, and supportive activities, services, and facilities; and

WHEREAS, Sean Gleason has provided the support necessary for large endeavors, such as the recent private-public partnership project to build the Colonial Heights Appomattox River Trail System, a network of riverside trails and parks for all residents and visitors of Colonial Heights to enjoy; and

WHEREAS, Sean Gleason has helped oversee the first phase of the riverside trail, a three-quarter-mile stretch from Roslyn Landing Park to Southpark Boulevard; Phase II calls for extension of the trail to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge and Phase III will take the trail to Appamatuck Park, where there will be a canoe and kayak launch, a fishing pier and other recreational facilities; and

WHEREAS, Sean Gleason has been valuable in gaining community support for the new trail system, which involves the efforts of nonprofit groups, volunteers, individuals, and the City of Colonial Heights; and

WHEREAS, after 34 years of making leisure time more accessible for his neighbors, Sean Gleason retired on December 31, 2009, and plans to enjoy his favorite outdoor activities of golfing, bicycling, and vacationing at the beach; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Sean Gleason for his outstanding service to his fellow citizens as the director of the Colonial Heights Recreation and Parks Department; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sean Gleason as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his many achievements and best wishes for a happy and much deserved retirement.
