10105049DWHEREAS, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) undergraduate landscape architecture program in the School of Architecture & Design, College of Architecture and Urban Studies, has been ranked No. 1 in North America in the 11th annual America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools study by DesignIntelligence on behalf of the Design Futures Council; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Tech’s graduate landscape architecture program, in the School of Architecture & Design, College of Architecture and Urban Studies, has been ranked No. 2 in North America, behind Harvard University, in the 11th annual America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools study by DesignIntelligence on behalf of the Design Futures Council; and
WHEREAS, in category rankings of the preparedness of recent graduates in a range of vital skills, Virginia Tech’s undergraduate landscape architecture program ranked No. 1 in communication and computer applications, No. 2 in design, and No. 3 in sustainable design concepts and principles; and
WHEREAS, Brian Katen, Associate Professor and Chair of the Landscape Architecture program, and Patrick Miller, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Outreach and Professor of Landscape Architecture, are two of four Virginia Tech professors named by DesignIntelligence as among the 25 Most Admired Design Educators in North America for 2010; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University’s landscape architecture program for its well-deserved national recognition; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charles Steger, the president of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the university’s outstanding landscape architecture program.
