Commending Jane Garrant Roane.

WHEREAS, Jane Garrant Roane of the City of Richmond, a respected citizen and an outstanding neighborhood supporter for the past 86 years, is recognized in 2010 for her many contributions to her community and her fellow citizens; and

WHEREAS, Jane Garrant Roane was born on February 12, 1908, and grew up in Fluvanna County, the sixth of 11 children born to George Washington and Laura Adams Garrant; she is the only surviving child of the Garrant family; and

WHEREAS, Jane Garrant Roane moved to the City of Richmond when she was 16 years old; and

WHEREAS, on October 28, 1935, Jane Garrant married the love of her life, the late George Roane, and the devoted couple had one wonderful daughter, the late Mattie Roane Hale; and

WHEREAS, a loyal employee with a strong work ethic, Jane Garrant Roane retired from the Medical College of Virginia in 1960; and

WHEREAS, throughout her life, Jane Garrant Roane has generously given her time and many talents to help people in need in her community, and she is a loved and respected member of her community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Jane Garrant Roane on her exemplary life of service on the occasion of her 102nd birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jane Garrant Roane as an expression of the General Assembly’s great admiration and best wishes.
