WHEREAS, MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts is recognized in 2010 for its organization of a statewide celebration to showcase the many outstanding contributions by women to the arts and culture of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, featuring special events honoring the talent and creativity of women, MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts is an unprecedented collaboration occurring between March and June of 2010 that will involve hundreds of artists and cultural organizations throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts provides residents and visitors to the Commonwealth a unique opportunity to enjoy outstanding performances, quality exhibitions, and excellent films by or about women; and
WHEREAS, MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts provides an exciting opportunity to learn more about gifted Virginia women artists, both contemporary and historical; and
WHEREAS, a model public-private partnership, MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts involves state government, businesses, individuals, artists, diverse cultural organizations, history museums, and libraries; and
WHEREAS, MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts exemplifies the breadth, diversity, and intrinsic value of arts and culture across the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts for their exemplary efforts to promote and support Virginia’s superb women artists and their extraordinary contributions to the arts and culture of the Commonwealth and the nation; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to representatives of MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of the organization’s many accomplishments and best wishes for continued success.
