10103918DWHEREAS, Roger Cook, the outstanding softball coach at Tunstall High School in Pittsylvania County, was recognized as the Virginia High School Coaches Association Group AA Softball Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, chosen by his fellow coaches for the award, Roger Cook began the softball program in 1984; the team began by practicing behind an elementary school because it didn’t have a field; and
WHEREAS, Roger Cook worked diligently with the young women of the Tunstall High School softball team over the years to develop their skills and build a strong softball program for the school; and
WHEREAS, Roger Cook’s hard work and dedication have paid off; he led the Tunstall Trojans to an outstanding 488 - 84 record since its inception 15 years ago; and
WHEREAS, the Tunstall High School Trojans finished the 2009 season with a trip to the state championship finals after completing a winning 23 - 1 season; and
WHEREAS, a respected and knowledgeable leader, Roger Cook not only coached the Tunstall High School Trojans softball team to numerous victories, but in the process built positive relationships with the parents and players; and
WHEREAS, after having dedicated 26 rewarding years as Tunstall High School’s outstanding softball coach, Roger Cook looks forward to spending more time watching his son, who is eligible for JV competition, play ball; and
WHEREAS, Roger Cook has demonstrated great leadership, integrity, and commitment to excellence as the Trojans softball coach and is a worthy recipient of the award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Roger Cook for his selection as the Virginia High School Coaches Association Group AA Softball Coach of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Roger Cook as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and best wishes in his future endeavors.
