Commending Angela Tincher.

WHEREAS, Angela Tincher, former James River High School and Virginia Tech softball standout who currently pitches for the National Pro Fastpitch team the Akron Racers, was named to the 2008 and 2009 All-National Pro Fastpitch team; and

WHEREAS, while at James River High School under the outstanding training and leadership of Coach John Shotwell, Angela Tincher had 45 career victories, 888 career strikeouts, and 23 career no-hitters; she led the Knights to two consecutive state championship victories and became the first player to have her jersey number (14) retired; and

WHEREAS, Angela Tincher continued her award-winning play while at Virginia Tech under Coach Scot Thomas; she accumulated over 2,000 career strikeouts, the third best performance in NCAA history; and

WHEREAS, Angela Tincher was named as the 2008 USA College Softball Player of the Year and was a 2008 finalist for an ESPY award; she was also the 2006 ACC Pitcher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Angela Tincher became the first Virginia Tech player to be named an All-American when she was named a 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NCAA second-team All American; in 2007 and 2008, she was named a Louisville Slugger/NFCA NCAA first-team All American; and

WHEREAS, recognized for her talent and ability, Angela Tincher was drafted in the first round of the 2008 National Pro Fastpitch Senior Draft by the Akron Racers; and

WHEREAS, Angela Tincher has continued her remarkable performance for the Racers as she finished the 2008 season with a league-high 157 strikeouts; she also finished second in the National Pro Fastpitch league with 12 wins and placed third in the league with a 2.06 ERA; and

WHEREAS, Angela Tincher also spent the 2008 - 2009 off-season playing in Japan for the Japan Pro League; and

WHEREAS, Angela Tincher decided at age nine that she wanted to be a softball pitcher; she has shown great talent and determination over the years as she has worked to achieve her dreams; and

WHEREAS, Angela Tincher serves as an outstanding role model for other youth on the value of hard work and dedication in achieving excellence; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Angela Tincher on her outstanding softball career; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Angela Tincher as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for all her hard work and success and prepare copies for presentation to James River High School and her Coaches, John Shotwell and Scot Thomas.
