Commending Lester L. Burnett.

WHEREAS, Lester L. Burnett was recognized in 2009 for his 50 years of outstanding service to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and the citizens of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Lester Burnett was born on October 15, 1938, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, the oldest of eight children of loving parents, Lonnie and Woodrow Burnett; and

WHEREAS, Lester Burnett attended Oak City High School in North Carolina and moved to Virginia in 1958, where he married and made a home with his beloved wife Julia; and

WHEREAS, on December 1, 1959, Lester Burnett began working for the Department of Motor Vehicles, where he continues to work as a valued employee; and

WHEREAS, Lester Burnett has faithfully served under 13 governors of the Commonwealth and seven commissioners of the Department of Motor Vehicles; and

WHEREAS, Lester Burnett is admired and cherished by the staff of the Department of Motor Vehicles for his positive attitude and his exemplary work ethic; and

WHEREAS, a knowledgeable and dedicated public servant, Lester Burnett is well-known and respected throughout the capital in Richmond, and he has brought great credit and esteem to his profession and the Department of Motor Vehicles; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Lester L. Burnett on his 50 years of outstanding service to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lester L. Burnett as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his longtime commitment to serve his fellow citizens and the Commonwealth.
