HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 230
Celebrating the life of Jerrell Gideon Huneycutt.

WHEREAS, Jerrell Gideon Huneycutt of Suffolk, a dedicated community volunteer, died on December 31, 2009; and

WHEREAS, a native of Stanly County, North Carolina, Jerrell Huneycutt was born into the large and loving family of the late John G. Huneycutt and Rosa Lee Hatley Huneycutt; he was one of 11 siblings; and

WHEREAS, in 1943 Jerrell Huneycutt married the love of his life, Letha Ann Burris Huneycutt, and he proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II; and

WHEREAS, after the war, Jerrell Huneycutt and his wife settled in Virginia and he began work as a machinist; he worked for five years with Craft Machine Works and 29 years at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, where he was a dedicated and valued employee; and

WHEREAS, a fun-loving and active man with five children, Jerrell Huneycutt generously gave of his time and energy for many years as the founder of the Chuckatuck Little League; and

WHEREAS, Jerrell Huneycutt was a compassionate and caring man with a strong faith that was shown through his service to others; he served for 40 years in the Fishers of Men ministry, where he spent countless hours serving others in prisons, nursing homes, and hospitals; and

WHEREAS, a member of West Suffolk Baptist Church, Jerrell Huneycutt and his wife not only were active in their church’s many missions in the community but also helped to organize Community Baptist Church in 1967; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Jerrell Huneycutt enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Jerrell Huneycutt will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife of 66 years, Letha Ann Burris Huneycutt; their five children, Grant, Vinson, Fairren, Ivan, and Cindy, and their families; and his numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated community volunteer and outstanding Virginian, Jerrell Gideon Huneycutt; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jerrell Gideon Huneycutt as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
