10104111DWHEREAS, the illustrious head coach of the St. Anne’s-Belfield School boys’ lacrosse team, Doug Tarring, retired after 31 years of service; and
WHEREAS, with a remarkable career record of 407 - 132 and seven state championships, Doug Tarring has the most victories in the history of lacrosse in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Doug Tarring grew up in Baltimore playing lacrosse and was recruited to play for the University of Virginia; he was a member of the University of Virginia’s 1972 NCAA championship lacrosse team and has worked as the radio color analyst for the University of Virginia lacrosse team for several years; and
WHEREAS, recruited by St. Anne’s-Belfield School as the junior varsity boys’ lacrosse team coach, Doug Tarring became head varsity coach in 1979; and
WHEREAS, not only an outstanding coach, Doug Tarring has been an inspirational role model, mentor, and leader of hundreds of young men throughout the years; he has encouraged and helped them grow and develop not just on the field but personally as well; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic leader and advocate, Doug Tarring has been influential in the growth in popularity of lacrosse locally and across the state; and
WHEREAS, Doug Tarring has received numerous accolades and honors throughout his career, including Division 1 Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009 and inclusion in the Virginia Lacrosse Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Doug Tarring’s program has produced numerous collegiate-level players and over 30 high school All-Americans; the back-to-back state championship wins of the St. Anne’s-Belfield boys’ lacrosse team were a fitting end to a stellar coaching career; and
WHEREAS, Doug Tarring’s success was bolstered by the support of the St. Anne’s-Belfield community of parents, administrators, faculty, and students; the players’ loyalty and commitment to the program; and the dedication, friendship, and positive impact of the coaching staff; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Doug Tarring on an outstanding 31-year career as head coach of the St. Anne’s-Belfield School boys’ lacrosse team; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug Tarring as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and respect for his many accomplishments and contributions to the sport of lacrosse in Virginia and best wishes in his future endeavors.
