HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 222 Offered February 2, 2010 Commending the Frank W. Cox High School girls' field hockey team. ----------

WHEREAS, the Frank W. Cox High School girls’ field hockey team finished yet another outstanding season by winning the 2009 Virginia High School League (VHSL) Group AAA state championship on November 17, 2009; and

WHEREAS, demonstrating near total dominance in field hockey, the Frank W. Cox High School Lady Falcons defeated Mountain View High School, winning the team’s fourth consecutive Group AAA state crown; and

WHEREAS, on the way to clinching the state championship, the Lady Falcons went undefeated, winning 26 games, bringing their total overall losses to only four for the past four years of competition; and

WHEREAS, in an amazing feat, the Lady Falcons have now won 17 state championships, breaking the team’s own best record of 16 state titles; and

WHEREAS, by winning a record 17 state championships, the Lady Falcons have earned the distinguished record of Most Successful Team in VHSL history, as no other field hockey team in the VHSL has competed for and won as many state titles; and

WHEREAS, with the state record of most wins, the Lady Falcons have established themselves as one of the most successful field hockey teams in the United States—ranking fourth in the National High School Record Book for their 162 total goals; and

WHEREAS, the dominating performance of the Lady Falcons over the past four years of competition is a testament to the dedication, talent, and overall commitment of the players; the experience and ability of Coach Julie Swain; and the tremendous support of the parents, faculty, and entire student body of Frank W. Cox High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Lady Falcons from Frank W. Cox High School as Virginia High School League Group AAA field hockey state champions; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Julie Swain as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the championship performance and continued excellence of the Frank W. Cox High School girls’ field hockey team.
