Commending the Texas Tavern.

WHEREAS, February 13, 2010, marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of a Roanoke gastronomic institution, the legendary Texas Tavern; and

WHEREAS, opened in 1930 by I. N. “Nick” Bullington, the Texas Tavern has changed little over the years, to the delight of its loyal customers, and is still run by the Bullington family; and

WHEREAS, on February 13, 2005, James N. Bullington, the third generation of his family to run the Texas Tavern, retired, leaving the restaurant in the capable hands of James M. Bullington, the fourth generation, who has managed the Texas Tavern since graduating from Roanoke College in 1997; and

WHEREAS, often referred to as "Roanoke's Melting Pot" or "Roanoke's Millionaires Club," the Texas Tavern appeals to young and old, rich and poor, blue collar, white collar, and no collar, lunch-hour regulars and midnight snackers; and

WHEREAS, a former Governor may sit next to a United States Congressperson or a college student or a construction worker down on his luck, and all of them can eat at the Texas Tavern at any time except Christmas Day; and

WHEREAS, the loyalty of its customers, the lines that frequently snake around the block, and the patrons at 4:00 a.m. all attest to the enduring popularity of a Roanoke institution, the Texas Tavern; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Texas Tavern on the occasion of its 80th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Texas Tavern in honor of its 80 years of noble service to the appetites of several generations of Roanoke's citizens.
