2010 SESSION
WHEREAS, Mary Calcott Elementary School, a Norfolk public school, was one of only 153 Virginia public schools to earn the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence; and
WHEREAS, the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence is the highest honor under a new incentive program for schools and school divisions created by the Virginia State Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, to qualify for the Governor's Award, schools must meet all state and federal achievement benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and meet rigorous standards for achievement in elementary reading; and
WHEREAS, led by Principal Lillian Akers, Mary Calcott Elementary School is an exceptional school with enthusiastic, innovative, and caring educators who help children achieve at very high academic levels; and
WHEREAS, the Governor’s recognition of Mary Calcott Elementary School is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the Mary Calcott Elementary School students, teachers, parents, and staff; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Mary Calcott Elementary School as a recipient of the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lillian Akers, principal of Mary Calcott Elementary School, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for the school’s commitment to the young people of Norfolk and the Commonwealth.
