Commending The First Tee.

WHEREAS, established in 1997, The First Tee is an international youth development organization and initiative of the World Golf Foundation; and

WHEREAS, the mission of The First Tee is to “impact lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf”; and

WHEREAS, the national First Tee Network currently has 204 established chapters, 692 program locations, over 3,000 participating elementary schools, and over 1,100 affiliated golf courses that offer free or reduced access, all devoted to providing positive youth development, character development, and golf instruction; and

WHEREAS, The First Tee has eight chapters throughout the Commonwealth, including Charlottesville, Danville, Hampton Roads, Harrisonburg, Maury River Basin, Prince William County, Richmond and Chesterfield, and Roanoke Valley; and

WHEREAS, the eight Virginia chapters of The First Tee enjoy private and public support, including local governments, school divisions, and Virginia businesses; and

WHEREAS, The First Tee has provided positive youth development opportunities through golf to over 101,406 of Virginia’s youth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby recognize and commend the eight Virginia First Tee chapters for their numerous contributions in youth development in their local and extended communities and throughout the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to each of the eight Virginia chapters of The First Tee as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of the organization’s outstanding service to the young people of the Commonwealth.
